Pet Vaccinations

Keeping your pet’s vaccination record up to date is the first line of defense against potentially debilitating diseases like rabies, parvovirus, and Bordetella. During your annual exam, you should talk to your doctor about your dog’s lifestyle and environment, as these are directly related to the types of vaccines that are most important for their care. With the help of our staff, you can develop a personalized vaccination schedule to keep your dog healthy and protected for years to come. Although each animal is different, we generally recommend:

At six to eight weeks:

• Distemper – Parovirus
• Hepatitis – Deworming
• Parainfluenza – Bordetella (optional)

At ten to eleven weeks:

• Distemper – Parovirus
• Hepatitis – Deworming
• Parainfluenza – Bordetella (optional)
• Heartworm preventative

Thirteen to fourteen weeks:

• Adult distemper – Leptospirosis
• Hepatitus – Parovirus
• Paroinfluenza – Check for worms

Sixteen weeks:

• Rabies
• Parovirus booster

In addition, you should work with your doctor to keep your dog up to date with booster vaccines and annual checks for heartworms and intestinal worms. Rolesville Veterinary Hospital also offers vaccine titers, a critical part of your pet’s preventative health care plan. Using a blood sample, your veterinarian can determine whether your pet currently had adequate protection against common diseases. A low titer will reveal vaccinations are necessary. (Titers are often requested by boarding and grooming facilities.)

Cats

For cats we recommend the following:

Six to eight weeks:

• Panleukopenia
• Calicivirus (Distemper)
• Rhinotracheitis
• Deworming

Nine weeks:

• Feline Leukemia Virus

Thirteen to fourteen weeks:

• Panleukopenia
• Leukemia Virus
• Rhinotracheitis
• Check for Worms (bring specimen)
• Calicivirus Felins

Sixteen weeks:

• Rabies

Exotics

For exotic animals we recommend:
